Wild Hare Hard Cider wins 4 medals at National Cider Competition
Bluemont, Va. (May 4, 2017) – Last week, Wild Hare Hard Cider received 4 medals for ciders they submitted to the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition often referred to as “GLINTCAP”. Jay Clement, the owner, is excited to have been recognized for the ciders and the medals received. “Last year we were recognized with a bronze medal for one of our ciders. This year we won 3 bronze medals and 1 silver medal. Being recognized by our peers and the industry for our cider is a good indication of our commitment to crafting the best cider possible. The medal count consisted of:
- Silver Medal – Hatch – Classic Cider — Heritage Cider Category
- Bronze Medal – Hopscotch – Dry Hopped Cider — Hopped Cider Category
- Bronze Medal – Saxby – Ginger Cider — Spiced Cider Category
- Bronze Medal – Ophelia – Grapefruit Cider — Specialty Cider
The GLINTCAP competition, which takes place in Grand Rapids, Michigan, started almost 12 years ago and had 113 entries in its inaugural year – this year, the field has jumped to over 1200 entries from 32 States and 9 Countries. The number of entries is representative of the huge growth of craft hard cider, and where the industry is headed.
Virginia now has approximately 20 cideries with 4 being in Loudoun County. Ten years ago that number was just one Cidery. Clement says he welcomes the competition – Cider is one of the most underrated beverages, with so much depth and potential.
Wild Hare Cider’s tasting room in Bluemont is open from Thursday – Sunday. Wild Hare also has a selection of their Cider in over 40 retail spots around Virginia. For more information visit www.wildharecider.com or look for Wild Hare Cider on Instagram and Facebook.
